It's a good question these days and one with many answers.
We are living in a quite unprecedented time for the church today. The last days are upon us, and we see many of the signs foretold in Scripture coming to pass, not least the rising apostasy of the professing Church.
There is hardly a week goes by without reading of compromise with the world. Only this past weekend has the Church of England held a ‘rave in the knave’ at Canterbury cathedral. You might say no surprise there from a church that cast off its biblical moorings a long time ago, but it is nevertheless symptomatic of a much wider problem.
A cursory glance on the Internet at any number of church websites will betray a longoing to 'fit in' with the prevailing culture and a seeming wholesale desire to dumb down anything that might be deemed to offend those outside of Christ. The word generally takes second place to various programs, personal thoughts, and of course the ‘worship’.
There is a seemingly overwhelming desire for the modern church to be liked by the world, and the idea, that a if we simply present ourselves as really nice people, the people of the world will just roll over and come to Jesus!
Church programs are full of worldy invitations to come along to our Pizza and board games evenings and quiz nights because we're just like you after all and everyone likes a good night out, and perhaps we'll throw a bit of Jesus in at the end, but certainly nothing enough to give you indigestion.
These churches appear to be full of half interested attendees, so board that usually stand around with their hands in their pockets probably wishing they were somewhere else. Worse than this is the proliferation of pastors and elders who in many cases are totally unequipped to care for the flock, let alone feed them. There is an immaturity that seems to be treated as if it were a virtue, and a lack of any biblical gravity. I have seen on many an occasion pastors and preachers very happy to lead their congregations in childish 'songs' with all the associated children's hand gestures, and this not to children, but to adults. A shame on those adults for sitting under such ministries! Meanwhile, those who earnestly seek the Lord and long to be fed from the pulpit are generally frowned upon and regarded at best as overzealous, and at worst troublemakers who need to pushed aside. What is promoted today is a broad and inclusive church, ironically however, it is the broad road that leads to destruction. The church seems to have been overrun by hirelings, who scatter the true sheep in favour of entertaining the goats, and sadly the situation shows no sign of abating.
It would be difficult to commend most churches today to a new believer in Christ, and I would certainly have reservations about just sending them anywhere, as I believe they would be prey to some very unbiblical and questionable practice.
If you’ve read this far you may be thinking that this all sounds very harsh and lacking in grace, but though it grieves my heart, I believe the times call for it. I truly believe that the time for good manners with such groupings professing to be the church has passed the threshold of polite disagreement. These things need to be exposed, and while we are to do this in a spirit of grace and mercy, we cannot fall into the trap of compromising with God's word, it is not after all ours to compromise but the Lords alone.
While there is always a faithful remnant here and there, many of Gods sheep are being scattered in these times and many true Bible believing and God honouring Christians can longer partake with what is evolving into the coming world church of the antichrist system. The hour is late, and the Lord will soon return for his bride, and so it is our prayer that you will allow this site to lead you to the many faithful ministries we have listed here, and that you learn to feed yourselves and others whom you may know. It is only by doing this and seeking for other scattered sheep that you will be able to weather the storm that is coming, and it is coming my friends.
The mainstream church in this country has failed, it has sacrificed the plain truth of Scripture on the altar of expediancy and will reap a bitter harvest in due course. I firmly believe that before the end comes the church will have gone full circle to days of Acts, when people met in houses for fear of the authorities, and yes, even for fear of organised Christianity!
The Lord Jesus is coming dear friends and that right soon. Our only concern in these days is to stay faithful to him and to his word. We do not need to compromise, and we dare not. The word of God sounds a clear trumpet call on all of the issues of the day, and the message that needs to go out is not, come to Jesus to have all your earthly needs met, as this may not be the case, but rather to understand who we are, and who our Holy God is, and that we need to repent of our sin. Only then will we inherit the promises of the world to come.
My prayer for you who read this is that you will be weary of much that is called church today. If its all lights, songs, froth and bubble, but no exposition of the scriptures then leave it well alone. There are by God's grace still some faithful, God honouring churches around, and if you need help in finding one then please feel free to get in touch and we will do whatever we can to connect you to one in your area.
Until then, let us all keep the faith once and for all delivered unto the saints, and lift up our heads, as our redemption is certainly drawing nigh!
